I think it was in physics lecture 2 or 3, discussing acceleration due to gravity. One of the formula you said we need to know is x = xo + vot + ? at2, I know that is hard to make out but I think you know what I mean. Well I was thinking about your problem with a ball dropping out of an airplane. To determine the distance after 1sec you said at 10m/s after 1sec the ball has gone 10m. That makes since except for this kinematics equation. It says the ball would have gone 5m. Can you explain a good way to rectify this question?

i noticed this person (scarletti) posted the question about why in the CD1 , the ball dropped from a plane will be at 10m after 1 sec, while the kinetics equation gives 5 as the anwer. I am also confused by these two different answers and i hope i will get a reply becase this person posted this question feb. 2005 and still didn't get an answer. Thanks

So, I think if this is a free fall problem...at 10 m/s2 at 1 sec, the ball is going 10 m/s. By salty's method (assuming I am doing this right), Vavg=5 m/s. At 1 sec * Vavg=5 m=distance ball has fallen.
